Urban Voids in Shanthinagar

The availability of accessible and open spaces in cities is a highly important topic. In addition, there is an inceasing demand in Bengaluru to improve open spaces by the citizens, as a growing number of feedback within Nextbengaluru shows.

During the first phase of the Nextbengaluru Space in Rhenius Street, Shanthinagar, MOD Institute have started to identify existing urban voids in the neighbourhood.

Along with our invited international experts, Jonas Büchel, Urban Instutite Riga, who has started recently Free Riga. and Leona Lynen, Raumtaktik Berlin, who has curated the international project Weltstadt, the Nextbengaluru team along with locals have organized two workshops and started a field reserach project to identify the urban voids and to rethink future usage.

The intermediate result is a first observation paper and a movie, to be released soon. We welcome everyone to share more ideas on future usage of the empty spaces and help to improve the mapping.
