MOD Institute is an international collective of architects, designers, researchers, curators and practitioners with engaged interests in, and interests for engagement with, the urbanisation processes in India. We are based in Bengaluru and Berlin.

 

Job Opening for Urban Designer/ Planner

We are growing and have projects which are often a hybrid of urban planning and design; therefore, we are looking for candidate who can effectively contribute to both areas.

 

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1) Data collection and analysis

2) Mapping of existing conditions using AutoCAD and Adobe Suite

3) Formulating recommendations and action strategies for urban development and town planning projects

4) Preparing urban design and architectural conceptual illustrations and plans

5) Layout and graphics related to preparing master planning documents

6) Writing and formatting of reports

The successful candidate should have a background in design with a strong interest in the development of cities. Expertise in any specific aspect of urban development will be considered a plus.

 

Key Qualifications for the successful candidate:

1) Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

2) Well versed or has a keen interest in global urban design/ planning trends as well as local planning practice in Bengaluru.

3) Experience in comprehensive planning and understanding the links between transportation, land use, housing, economic development, environment and natural resources, and community development.

4) Ability to analyze geographic information systems and procedures; to read and interpret surveys, legal descriptions, cartography, engineering documents, construction plans, aerial photography, land use data.

5) Ability to provide technical assistance to conduct training and workshops, and develop innovative, collaborative solutions to build better cities.

6) Experience working with elected officials and local government staff in designing and implementing policies and strategies that support the creation of sustainable and inclusive cities.

6) Interest and ability to interact with partner agencies, local governments, and the general public.

7) Excellent written and oral communication skills.

8) Strong computer skills including proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Indesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office, AutoCad, Sketchup.

9) Strong and Demonstrated experience with two or more GIS packages

10) Excellent drawing skills a plus.

11) Ability to work on complex projects, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

12) Willingness to travel for project related work.

13) Apart from excellent written and spoken English, additional language skills are a plus, especially in languages popular in Bengaluru- Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi

 

Education and Experience:

1) Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture

2) Master’s Degree in Urban Design/Planning or any other related field.

3) At least 2 to 5 years of work experience in urban design is required.

Demonstrated ability to manage and contribute to complex projects is required.

 

City of Placement: Bengaluru, Karnataka

Remuneration: Commensurate with experience and skills.
